Mediation is a process that uses a neutral third party to help two opposing parties come to a mutually agreed upon resolution. It is being used more and more in the modern legal system because it is both effective and generally much less expensive than prolonged litigation.

A good mediator is critical to ensuring a fair mediation process and it is important to have a good attorney to help you assess whether you're being dealt with fairly. It is also important to have a lawyer who is familiar with how mediation works to assist you in getting the maximum benefit out of the process.
