Bio:

James Hope is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as a Criminal Trial Law Specialist, which has gained him the distinction of presenting himself to the public as an “expert” under a program established and approved by the Florida Supreme Court. (Fewer than .5% of Florida’s 100,000 attorneys are Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyers.) Mr. Hope received his B.A. degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1983, and his J.D. degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1986

Mr. Hope has been practicing criminal law in Tavares, Florida, since 1987, developing a wealth of experience in criminal matters at all stages of litigation. He is a former Lake County Assistant State Attorney, with supervisory experience at the juvenile, misdemeanor, felony and post-conviction relief levels—including a designation as Lake County’s first sex-battery and first career-criminal prosecutor.

The Florida Bar has stated:

“Certification is the highest level of recognition given by the Florida Bar for competency and experience within an area of law.”

“In Florida, only board certified lawyers are permitted to refer to themselves as “experts” or “specialists.” Board certified lawyers are legal experts dedicated to professional excellence who have met rigorous standards for experience and professionalism.”

“Board certification recognizes attorneys’ special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in practice.”

Mr. Hope’s jury trial experience ranges from shoplifting and DUI to capital sexual battery and first-degree murder. Since 2009 he has also been the Publisher and Executive Editor of Lake Legal News.
